In early 2025, Redemption Hill will be re-launching as a new church.
It’s been nearly 8 years since we launched Redemption Hill, a church that is ‘all about Jesus every day’. In that time, we’ve seen God do immeasurably more than we ever asked, dreamed or imagined. We’ve helped people to connect the reality and relevance of Jesus to the everyday spaces of their lives - where they live, work, share and play.
At every step of our story, we’ve seen God’s hand powerfully at work as he’s provided for our every need, including five venues in five years (!). After a long process of prayer and discernment, we have decided that Redemption Hill will be moving to 665A Darling Street Rozelle and re-launched as a new church.
It’s been a wonderful blessing to meet on Sundays at St Andrew’s College chapel within Sydney University for the past 3 years. As we look ahead to the future, we’re excited to be dreaming, planning, and praying all over again. We’d love you to join us as we take this step of faith, trusting that just as God has been faithful before, he is faithful still, and he will be faithful again, for the sake of his glory and praise.

Tell me a bit about Rozelle.
Rozelle is a bustling, inner-west village; a stone’s throw away from Sydney CBD. Rozelle is a vibrant hub of activity: from the Rozelle Markets, to the eclectic mix of cafes, local watering holes, and creative art spaces along Darling Street. It is made up of long-time locals, newer 20-39 year old professionals and young families moving into the area to be closer to the city, and housing commission residents.
What does Rozelle need?
The Rozelle/Balmain peninsula is sometimes referred to as the ‘Insular Peninsula’, because locals never have to leave. Everything you need is right at your doorstep. What could we possibly have to offer those who look like they already have everything? But there is something more satisfying, better, truer, deeper and more lasting than anything we could ever hope for or imagine: Jesus. Our prayer is that many people will come to find life in Jesus, because there really is nothing better than knowing Jesus and living life his way.
Why another church in Rozelle?
There are a number of great churches in the area already, such as Darling St Anglican (working in partnership with The Bridge Church), City Light Church, Campbell Street Presbyterian, St Mary’s Anglican Church. While we’re certainly looking forward to working together with these churches, we’re convinced that no single church can reach everyone in an area. There are 30,000+ people who live in Rozelle, Balmain, Birchgrove, Balmain East, and Lilyfield who need to hear about Jesus. We need many more churches, and different kinds of churches, to make a significant impact for Jesus in Rozelle.
Where is 665A Darling Street Rozelle?
The church site sits just off Victoria Road and is right next door to Rozelle Public School. It consists of a main worship space, office space, kids room, back hall, and garden. A number of community groups currently use the site during the week, such as Ready Steady Go Kids, Anna Grace Counselling, Rozelle Rascals Playgroup, and Einsteinz Music. Previously known as St Paul’s Presbyterian Church, the church building was built in 1904, and most recently, another Presbyterian church called ‘Chapel Hill’ was meeting at the site. The church is a short bus ride from the city (442, 500X, 501, 500N, 502) and there is plenty of street parking within walking distance of the church with carparks on Hamilton Street, Merton Street, and Ellen Street.
What is our dream?
The church we see is a church connecting people to the life, light and love of Jesus. We dream about a growing Presbyterian church in Rozelle. On Sundays, we gather as a big church family to worship God, with gospel-centered, relevant preaching, a parallel kids’ program for 3 year olds up to Year 6, a safe place to explore and grow in faith, and rich conversations over morning tea that overflow into the many cafes and eateries on Darling Street for lunch, with every person leaving ‘sent’ into the everyday spaces of their lives with Jesus. During the week, we are out and about teaching Scripture at Rozelle Public School next door. The church site is a hub of activity, with small groups meeting in the building, church-wide training events, combined youth group on Friday evenings with other local churches in the area, paint and sip nights, free pilates, mums and bubs playgroups, and community workshops. Each year, we will partner with local businesses for Summer Carols in the Garden, a local Christmas event started by Chapel Hill, leading into Explore courses throughout the year where we regularly see people come to find life in Jesus. We long to see a diverse, growing church not for ourselves but for students and city professionals, young, old and in-between, neighbours and friends, loving and serving one another in genuine community.
What will change for us?
We’re thankful to God for the past 8 years. In particular, we’re thankful to those who have journeyed with us through many ups and downs. In January 2025, there will be time for us to reflect and give thanks to God for all he has done so far, with our final Sunday at St Andrew’s College on Sunday, 26 January 2025. The next Sunday, 2 February 2025 will be our first Sunday at Rozelle. The move to Rozelle is more than another location move, and the new name ‘Rozelle Presbyterian Church’ is more than a re-branding exercise. It is the start of a new church with a clear identity. While many of those in the launch team will come from Redemption Hill, and there will be some overlap in terms of leadership, culture, and ministry programs, we are committed to learning, adapting and growing, so that we can meet the unique needs of the Rozelle community. We look forward to this exciting new beginning with anticipation.
